In a defensive slugfest at Fontana Field in Southington, the Blue Knights beat New Britain 3-0 Saturday night (Sept. 24) when first-year senior kicker Sean Hammell knocked a 24-yard field goal through the uprights late in the fourth quarter. The field goal was keyed by an interception from Brian Kaminsky that he took back inside the 10 yard, a return of 40-plus yards. Both defenses were on their games, but Southington forced turnovers and game out on the winning end. Jared DeGumbia's pick with seconds remaining at the Southington goal line sealed the win for the Blue Knights. Below are three videos, first of Hammell's winning kick, then of Hammell reacting to the win and head coach Mike Drury talking about the victory.

Cherraine Davis, who was the state open girls shot put champ in both the indoor and outdoor season, recently toured Europe and competed in the DN Galan Diamond League Youth World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden.
While there, she finished third overall in the women's shot put in the Youth 17-under division. This was her first international competition representing the United States.
